Understanding Different Cures for Bad Breath

Interestingly, more than 50% of people living in the United States have bad breath.  In fact, experts state that at minimum 50% of people around the world deal with this same problem.  Although bad breath is a global problem, most people choose not to talk about it even though most are desperately searching for a cure.

The typical causes of bad breath are known such as bacteria that live within the mouth on teeth, the tongue, gums and inside the cheeks.  Knowing this allows people to take the appropriate steps for avoiding bad breath, as well as ways of eliminating the problem.  For one thing, people need to consider the types of food being consumed.  Some foods contain a volatile sulfur compound, which is a waste byproduct caused by anaerobic oral bacteria as protein is digested.

As an example, many vegetarians, those that consume large quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables seldom deal with bad breath but for people who love steaks, chicken, pork and other forms of protein, bad breath can be a serious challenge.  Of course, no one needs to switch to a vegetarian diet unless wanted but more of using good dental hygiene after eating so the entire inside of the mouth can be cleaned, specifically after eating high-protein foods.

In addition to the development of this sulfur compound, food can cause another problem associated with bad breath.  After eating, small food particles become trapped in between the teeth, around the gum line, and even in crevices on the tongue.  Unless these particles are flossed out, they sit and being the growth of bacteria.  At some point, this bacterium causes horrible breath.

For years, people have used baking soda to cure bad breath.  Baking soda is not only effective, it is 100% safe, so much so that many major brands of toothpaste are made with this ingredient.  If you choose to clean the teeth with baking soda from home, you would create a paste of soda with water.  Then, dip the toothbrush into the paste using it to brush the teeth and tongue.  Baking soda can also be mixed with water and used to gargle which fights bad breath and helps balance pH levels inside the mouth.

Studies have shown that sipping on a cup of hot unsweetened green tea two to three times a day also helps cure bad breath.  The reason is that green tea naturally kills bacteria.  Additionally, sipping on green tea throughout the day will help moisten the mouth which also helps to discourage the growth of bacteria.  Additionally, green tea contains unalloyed copper, which is great for cleaning the tongue.

Although people can purchase a number of tools, devices and products from the local drug store, home remedies also work great to cure bad breath.  The great thing about this is that you pay much less yet you get the same if not better results.
